The event took place from May 5 to 7 at the Lima Convention Center and sought to highlight the importance of mining exploration in the country.

With the participation of prominent national and international specialists, as well as representatives from the public, private, and academic sectors, the 14th edition of the International Congress of Prospectors and Explorers – proEXPLO 2025, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), began on May 5.

The event had as its slogan this year “Discovering mineral resources for a better world” and sought to highlight the importance of mining exploration in the sustainable development of Peru and the region.

“Peru has enormous geological potential. Today, we have 84 mining exploration projects, representing an investment of USD 1.039 billion. These figures show that mining will continue to be a pillar of the national economy. For this reason, it is crucial to continue promoting and encouraging investment, both domestic and foreign, and proEXPLO is the ideal setting for this,” said Walter Tejada, President of proEXPLO 2025, during the opening ceremony.

“It is through exploration that we can identify the mineral resources the world needs for its well-being. Each discovery represents new opportunities for development and growth for our country and our region. That is why proEXPLO is not only a showcase for sharing project progress and discoveries, but also a space for building the future,” said Tejada.

Throughout the event, there were 10 keynote speeches and more than 20 technical presentations addressing key topics such as artificial intelligence applied to exploration, community relations, responsible investment, permitting, and new trends in the industry. Among the international speakers were renowned experts such as Richard Goldfarb, with over 40 years of experience in exploration, Regina Baumgartner, with extensive experience in greenfield projects in the Americas and Asia, and Joe Mazumdar, geologist and economic analyst at Exploration Insights.

On the other hand, during his welcoming remarks, Darío Zegarra, president of the IIMP, emphasized: “Exploration is essential to guarantee the future of Peruvian mining, as it attracts investment, allows new deposits to be discovered, and extends the useful life of existing operations. This event is a key meeting point for the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and innovation between the private sector and academia.”

In this way, proEXPLO 2025 consolidated its position as a strategic platform for showcasing new mining developments and fostering a collaborative ecosystem aimed at promoting the discovery of mineral resources that will boost the country’s economic growth.
